Taylor’s Story: Son // Friend // Cousin // Man that matters

Taylor’s Story

Son // Friend // Cousin // Man that matters

ex·pect·an·cy

/ikˈspektənsē/

noun

the state of thinking or hoping that something, especially something pleasant, will happen or be the case.

There are so many great things in life that we have an expectancy for! I just love the verse in Jeremiah 29.11 that says “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  We can have expectancy and hope because of the one who holds our future and our plans!

Taylor, a follower of Jesus, a lover of music, and a dreamer of future plans, has been expectant for his future. Taylor has Down's Syndrome, he is 21-years-old and a 2020 graduate of high school.

Taylor is wanting to know his next steps for the future. Like other graduates during the pandemic, he was not afforded the normal rites of passage associated with celebrating this milestone. Unlike other graduates, it was one of the few milestones that would make him feel like a typical student. Taylor sees the journeys of his siblings, cousins, and many others- college, friends, girlfriends, careers, living independently- and understandably longs for that level of normalcy. He dreams about it, hopes for it, and talks about it every day.

For years, his family has helped him focus on trusting God's plan for his life and enjoying whatever it looks like, but it is a struggle for him. He wants what everyone else seems to experience.

The future is uncertain for all of us, and the program he is scheduled to begin this fall, REACH, may or may not begin as planned, leaving a wide-open schedule of nothing definite.

Taylor needs to be reminded that He is God's workmanship created beforehand in Christ Jesus for good works and that God's plans are best.

And check out his parents’, Leighanne and Philip, story so you can know how you can be praying for and encouraging his parents too! Please pray for God to show both he and his parents what to do this fall to help him discover what God has for him.

YOU can encourage Taylor! Would you commit to writing Taylor a letter? A few simple words can speak greater volumes than you could ever know! Remind him that he matters!
