Lori’s Story
Sister // Friend // Woman that matters
saudade
/souˈdädə/
Noun
deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one cares for and/or loves while simultaneously having positive emotions towards the future.
We all have experienced something that would make us feel “saudade.” This Portuguese word has such a richness and depth to it. We can miss someone and deeply long for them while still having hope for the future.
Right now, Lori is experiencing this type of longing. She is 52 but due to health concerns, she lives in a care facility in Arizona, while her family and loved ones are in Pennsylvania. The distance feels great, and the family misses each other. Because of the virus, Lori is not able to leave her room. This season has brought sadness, loneliness, and depression for Lori.
Right now, I think Lori could use reminders that she is not alone, that she is cared for, and that she is a woman with immense value! You can remind her about saudade: that even though we face deep longing for things we miss, we can still have hope for the future. Any mail would bring such brightness and encouragement to Lori during this time!
Would you commit to writing Lori a letter? A few simple words can speak greater volumes than you could ever know! Remind her that she matters!
